Captain Marvel's Japanese Poster Features Multiple Carols

http://bit.ly/2RSWvPV

The many lives of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) are on display in a new Japanese poster for Captain Marvel. It's been a long time coming for Carol Danvers to get her big screen debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios at one point had plans for her to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron and there was talk of the same for Avengers: Infinity War. But, they decided to give her a solo movie first before she joins the larger storyline.

In order to do this, Captain Marvel will be set in 1995 to allow the film to tell its own story, without having to worry too much about Thanos' snap. The solo movie will be a non-chronological origin story, largely because Carol will already have her powers when the film begins and be part of the elite Kree special forces team known as Starforce. When she crashes on Earth, her memory of a previous life will start to come back to her.

These different lives have been at the center of Captain Marvel's marketing campaign, as it's shown Carol training to be a pilot, her as a member of the Air Force, her new Kree life, and how she becomes something more. Captain Marvel News shared a brand new Japanese poster for the solo film that does more of the same by showing multiple versions of Carol.

With the release of this poster, Marvel continues to move into the final stages of Captain Marvel's marketing campaign. They've already released three trailers and several posters prior, and the interest appears to be there for the film. The ticket pre-sales were in the top 3 for any MCU film after 24 hours and box office projections have Captain Marvel opening to over $160 million domestically in its first weekend. They've also made sure to keep Larson at the forefront of the campaign, but this poster also does a good job of showing how multi-faceted she is.

Thanks to Carol not remembering her life before being a Kree warrior, Captain Marvel should be able to explain Carol's origin to audiences at the same time as she's remembering it. This will open up the door for Lashana Lynch's Maria Rambeau to get involved, but also answer questions about Carol's heritage and how she actually gained her powers. It's heavily theorized that her mind wipe is far from a coincidence and its instead done by the Kree to build their own super soldier. Her origin is just one of many mysteries Captain Marvel still appears to have, which should provide the movie with plenty of opportunities to surprise audiences in just over a month.
